Penelope (Penny) Stamp was the Postmistress of Little Hope, the conscientious stamper and examiner of all packages and letters (home and colonial) which passed across her jolly tidy little counter.

It was rumoured that one of Penny's pigeon holes (second from the left, third row down) was, in fact, a dead letter box for a mysterious fellow in a pork pie hat who dropped by at precisely five o'clock on every alternate Tuesday, although to be fair said pigeon hole could just be a repository for her beloved George Cross's black market shag...
