There was nothing, but nothing, which Agapanthus Crumb couldn't do with three sticks of rhubarb and a boiled egg.  Hardy perennial winner of every possible culinary prize at the Little Hope Village Fete for fifteen years running, she made Mrs Beeton look like the workhouse cook in 'Oliver Twist'.

As leader of the militant wing of the Women's Institute, Agapanthus was also an excellent source of gossip, and just the person to wrestle sixpence out of Constable Clink at the Christmas Carol Service...
